There will be lots of entertainment at the Taste of the Philippines – an incredible and diverse array of traditional and cultural talent, from modern and traditional dance, to Filipino Martial Arts and a line-up of local and regional vocal talent – there will be something for everyone! 

Michelle believes in the healing and revitalizing benefits of yoga practice. She is delighted to guide the community into a beginner series of postures and breathing techniques to create more vitality in people’s lives.

Zumba is the largest branded fitness program in the world, created by Colombian dancer and Choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez. Founded in 2001, Zumba aims to help people achieve personal transformations by incorporating latin rhythms including salsa, raggaeton, merengue and cumbia. As of 2019, there are over 100,000 Zumba instructors around the world.

eKlectic Dance Company

Founded in 2013 and based in Tierrasanta, eKlectic Dance Company is comprised of working professionals with a passion to learn and perform multiple dance styles, including Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Bollywood and many more. They have performed at multiple events and festivals throughout San Diego. For Taste of Philippines, they will open the Zumba portion with a Musical Theatre number, followed by a Kpop performance which will open up the Ujam section. We hope you enjoy our performance!

Mel Ramos is a Filipino American San Diego native. She loves to sing a wide range of covers with her ukulele. She has performed at open mics, farmers markets, and events in San Diego. She loves to perform with others so if you are a singer/musician and want to collaborate, reach out!

Kaibigan Dance Company

Founded in 2018, Kaibigan Dance Company (KDC) is an amateur performance group comprised of working professionals. They have performed at various events and festivals throughout San Diego County, including the Asian Cultural Festival, San Diego Lunar New Year Festival, San Diego Safari Park, and December Nights just to name a few. KDC is honored to perform at the Taste of the Philippines for the first time and we hope you enjoy our performance.

G-Moto, a Bamboo Flute-Beatboxer, performs music covers inspired by Video Game Music, Anime, K-Pop, and more. G-Moto has performed at various cultural festivals and anime conventions, such as the 626 Night Market and Anime Expo. G-Moto was a Finalist at the 2020 Anime Los Angeles’ Next Top Star talent competition. G-Moto’s music was also featured in Jubilee Media’s SONGLAB series.

Illest.Chill is a solo project rapper/songwriter. llest.Chill has performed in multiple states in the US and has made a few appearances in Mexico. Music influences include Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Atmosphere, Nujabes and Tupac. Illest.Chill is working on his debut album titled “Jaded” set to release January 30th 2022.

PASACAT began in 1970 as the Philippine-American Society and Cultural Arts Troupe. It is a non-profit cultural arts organization based in National City who’s mission is to preserve Asian Pacific arts with the end in view of promoting cultural goodwill and understanding.

PASACAT 51 year history includes performing at the Americans for the Arts Conference; the Lotus Festival in Los Angeles for the Philippine Consulate; Super Bowl XXXII Pre-game show and featured on CNN’s Inside Asia for the significance of Philippine dance in America.

Orion Song is an Asian-American singer-songwriter from San Diego, CA. Originally writing acoustically off of a baritone ukulele, he has dived into the old & new world of R&B and relative sub-genres with serving intentions. Not conforming to one genre, he draws inspiration from Justin Timberlake, Nujabes, Crush, and Michael Jackson. In September of 2020, he released is first Pop single “Electricity.”

The SAMAHAN Filipino American Performing Arts & Education Center, Inc. is a 501 (c)3) non-profit organization based in San Diego, California. Its cultural educational programs are funded in part with grants from the California Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, County of San Diego Community Enhancement Program, The San Diego Foundation – Lolita Dinoso Endowment and Donations from individual contributors.

Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble (PKE) of the Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts & Education Center performs indigenous gong music from the Muslim societies of the Southern Philippines. Performing artists in PKE have conducted intense study with master artists directly from the southern Philippines. Pakaraguian’s mission is to promote the cultural arts of the southern Philippines with artistry, integrity, and respect. Led Musical Director Dr. Bernard Ellorin, the ensemble has two home bases in San Diego and Los Angeles, California.

Albert Posis is a Filipino-American R&B/Pop singer, songwriter, musician, and producer from San Diego, CA. In 2008, he gained early traction by recording cover videos on YouTube and instantly found enjoyment in entertaining others through music. Albert eventually grew a love for songwriting and now focuses on releasing original music, captivating all types of listeners by crossing genres through his “modern nostalgic” sound.

UnderCover Jams, is a vocal trio consisting of Jim Ormord Jr, Marvin Vistro and Loy Monsanto. Sharing a common love of rich vocal harmonies and Old School music, the group was established in 2019. If you enjoy groups like The Stylistics, Temptations, Spinners, and Malo (just to name a few) you won’t be disappointed. Realizing the need in 2020 to provide relief during the Covid 19 pandemic, they started posting their music videos on Facebook, paying tribute to all the Old School greats. Now with over 20 million views and nearly 150,000 follows from all over the world. UnderCover Jams continues to spread joy and love through Old School music.

Tribal Theory of San Diego, California has been established as the original Urban Reggae band. Formed in 2005, Tribal Theory’s signature is the fusion of their Pacific Island roots with the feel good vibes of Reggae, grittiness of Rock, and the soulful harmonies of R&B.

Apl.de.Ap – Headlining Performer

Apl.de.Ap is a co-founder of the mega group, Black Eyed Peas. The group just released their eighth studio album, Translation, featuring J. Rey Soul, an artist he discovered as a coach on the inaugural season of The Voice: Philippines. Apl.de.Ap, born Allan Pineda, from Sapang Bato, Angeles, Pampanga, always has a soft spot for the country he emigrated from as a teenager.

His foundation, The Apl.de.Ap Foundation, has allowed him to fulfill his philanthropic efforts to his mother country. Now, Apl wishes to use his foundation to create a positive impact on the Filipino community in the United States.
