Melissa Mecija

Melissa Mecija joined the 10News team in July 2010. She currently works with Team 10’s investigative unit and the weekend morning team as a weather and news anchor.

She came to San Diego from KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, where she worked in her hometown of Orange County as a video journalist and web reporter.

Melissa began her career as a reporter/weekend anchor for KYMA in El Centro, California/Yuma, Arizona. Some of her most memorable stories in the Desert Southwest include skydiving with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, covering visits by former President George W. Bush, exploring underground drug tunnels, and reporting on former President Gerald Ford’s funeral services. During her time there, she earned an Arizona Associated Press Award for live reporting.

She won a regional EMMY for excellence in health science reporting in 2017. Melissa has also received several honors from the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists and the San Diego Press Club.

Marie Coronel

Marie Coronel is a reporter for ABC10News. She is the proud daughter of Filipino parents. Marie grew up in South San Diego and graduated from Eastlake High School in Chula Vista. Marie received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a Minor in Political Science from California State University, Northridge.

Prior to returning home to Southern California, Marie was a reporter and anchor at WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia and WHAG in Hagerstown, Maryland. Before that, Marie worked as an assignment editor at KTNV in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marie got her start in television news, working as a reporter and host for Adelphia Cable in Simi Valley. In addition to news reporting, she’s also worked for the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.

Marie is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) and is active in the Filipino-American community. Marie also spends a lot of time volunteering at her children’s school.

Liberty Zabala

Liberty Zabala is a four-time Emmy Award-winning reporter and weather anchor for FOX 5 San Diego.

She previously worked as a reporter, weather anchor and fill-in news anchor for NBC 7 San Diego. In November 2016, Liberty was honored as one of 100 Comcast NBCUniversal employees selected from across the country to take part in (Morning Joe) Mika Brzezinski’s “Know Your Value” program in association with MSNBC.

She has conducted several high-profile interviews including presidential candidates Rand Paul, Ron Paul & Newt Gingrich, Senator Kamala Harris, 37th Commandant of the Marine Corps General Robert B. Neller, world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao, comic creator Stan Lee, and media mogul Oprah.

She is a graduate of California State University, Northridge with a degree in journalism and collateral in political science with an emphasis in international relations.

Liberty is a graduate of the “FBI Citizens Academy” at the FBI San Diego Field Office during Spring 2019.

Jelynn Sophia Malone

Jelynn Sophia Malone is a Filipino-American entrepreneur, businesswoman, philanthropist, actress, TV host, producer, wife, and mother of 2 beautiful daughters, Max and Harlowe. She is a co-founder/owner and acting Chief Marketing Officer for Mostra Coffee, a specialty coffee roasting company in San Diego and winner of Roast Magazine’s 2020 Micro Roaster of the Year.

With over 15 years of marketing experience working as a Hollywood TV host and actress for networks such as NBC, ABC, TV Guide Channel, VH1, AMC, Disney/ABC, FOX and Nickelodeon, Jelynn has been instrumental to the growth and international success of her company. She is a believer of dreaming big, chasing your wildest dreams, and always aspires to make positive change that uplifts entire local and global communities.
